SplitSmart : Expense Tracking App
Designing with AI from research to building the final product. Created with Base44 and ideated with chatgpt.
Everyday group expenses like groceries, takeout, trips often involve complex splits: not everyone shares every item, and payments happen asynchronously.
Tools like Splitwise simplify tracking, but they rely on users to calculate amounts manually and input them afterward. This extra step creates friction, especially in groups where expenses are frequent and varied.
My goal was to design a system that removes this mental overhead, one that allows users to split while they calculate, and automatically keeps the math fair, transparent, and minimal.

Tools
Real-Time, Flexible Splitting
Unlike Splitwise, which requires users to enter pre-calculated amounts, this app lets you split while you calculate.
Users can add items one by one, choose who’s included in each item, and the app automatically computes the correct share for everyone involved.
Upload or Scan Receipts
Users can drop in a photo of their receipt, making it easier to reference items visually while assigning them. This creates a more natural workflow than manually typing line items from memory or paper bills.
Smart Expense Summary
The Summary tab gives users a clear snapshot of what they owe and who owes them.
This design reduces the mental overhead of expense splitting by combining calculation, assignment, and settlement into a single seamless flow.
It transforms what used to be a frustrating, multi-step process into a quick, collaborative interaction turning “Who owes what?” into a one-glance answer.
